One killed, ten injured in north kashmir blast

Baramulla, Mar 16 (UNI) At least one person was killed and ten others wounded and about a dozen shops damaged in a powerful blast near a crowded bus stand near here this afternoon, official sources said.

However, unconfirmed reports said one of the injured person died on way to hospital.

Official sources said a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded near the bus stand killing one Abdul Ahad Bhat, a resident of Sopore, on the spot.

Ten others wounded were admitted to nearby District hospital.

However, three critically injured were referred to Srinagar hospital, sources added.

A UNI correspondent who visited the spot saw more than a dozen shops besides office of Peopls Conference (PC) were damaged.

A bus parked in the area was also totally damaged in the blast, sound of which was heard across the town.

This is the first blast after Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) replaced ten batallions of the Border Security Force (BSF) in North and South Kashmir areas yesterday.

Senior police and civil officials have rushed to the spot.

No militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the blast.

The walkout, led by Leader of the Opposition Jamuna Devi (Cong), was staged to express dissatisfaction over the regime's reply even as Revenue Minister Kamal Patel said the government guidelines for land allotment to social organisations would be strictly followed in.....

CPI(M-L) protest, demand scrapping of SEZ laws

Jaipur, March 16 (UNI) CPI (M-L) activists here today held a protest condemning the police firing in West Bengal's Nandigram, which killed 14 farmers. Party's central committee member Srilata Swaminathan, leading the protest said the Nandigram killings are a direct result of flawed SEZ policies. The activists demanded resignation of the West Bengal Chief Minister, saying the Left Front has lost all moral rights to rule after this planned massacre, which was intended to teach Nandigram villagers a lesson......

Badal appoints three Chief Parliamentary Secretaries

Chandigarh, Mar 16 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today announced the appointment of three Chief Parliamentary Secretaries (CPS). The newly-appointed CPSs are Mrs Mohinder Kaur Josh and Sarwan Singh Phillaur, both of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Mr Jagdish Sahni of the BJP. They will take oath to the office on March 19. Mrs Josh and Mr Sarwan Singh were ministers in the SAD-BJP government of 1997. Mrs Josh was elected from Sham Churasi (reserve) constituency in Hoshiarpur.....
