Northeast Express derails

Katihar, Mar 16 (UNI) Train services between north India and the northeast remained disrupted for several hours following derailment of the engine of 2506 dn Northeast Express near Karhagola station under Katihar division of Northeast Frontier Railway early this morning today.

Senior Commercial Manager, (Katihar division of NE Frontier Railway) R K Singh said the derailment occurred as the Guwahati-bound superfast train hit a buffalo trying to cross the track between Barhi and Karhagola stations.

About 500 mt of railway tracks were damaged and restoration work was on, he said adding no report of any casualty or injury had been received.

Several long distance trains were regulated at different stations, including Guwahati Rajdhani Express, Mahananda Express, Avadh Assam Express and Hate Bazare Express.

Life grinds to halt, violence marks Bengal bandh

Kolkata, Mar 16 (UNI) Life came to a grinding halt in West Bengal today as sporadic violence marked the opposition-sponsored statewide bandh in protest against Wednesday's police firing at Nandigram. Bandh supporters, belonging to the opposition Trinamool Congress, Congress and SUCI, disrupted railway services by squatting on tracks, put up road blockades, attacked government offices and set ablaze vehicles in different parts of the state. Nandigram protests rake Singur embers

Singur, Mar 16 (UNI) Nandigram fire spilled into Singur today as the Krishi Jami Raksha Committee supporters dislodged the fencing of land for the Tata Motors's small car unit and tried to set afire a watch tower. Official sources said a large number of bandh supporters, who belonged to the Krishi Jami Raksha Committee, tried to uproot the logs and the barbed wire, which fenced the Tata land. They came from the Gopalnagar area and suddenly rushed towards a watchtower.....
