Nandigram and Chattisgarh incidents figure in Punjab assembly

Chandigarh, Mar 16 (UNI) The Nandigram incident and the killing of policemen in Bijapur in Chattisgarh figured in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha here today.

Speaking in the House after the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, Cooperation Minister Capt Kawaljit Singh warned that such incidents could happen in Punjab. '' On one hand, we talk of the economic growth rate, but on the other hand, social tensions and disparities were on the rise'', he noted.

'Such issues are a matter of concern and we must all save Punjab, so that similar incidents do not occur here'', he said while stressing on removing disparities in society.

Expert panel to study Naxalite problem in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Mar 16 (UNI) Chhattisgarh government will appoint a high powered expert committee to study, analyse and suggest ways to tackle the problem of Naxalism, particularly in tribal Bastar region of the state, Chief Minister Raman Singh announced in the Vidhan Sabha today. He was replying to a call attention notice of leader of the opposition Mahendra Karma and others on the killing of 55 security personnel in a naxalite attack at Ranibodli police camp in Dantewada district. Panther falls in well, rescued

Jaipur, March 16 (UNI) A panther fell into a well here today morning, leading to panic in the area. The feline was rescued by zoo officials later. According to police, a panther, which strayed from the forests into the Ghat ki Ghuni area, fell into a 15 m deep well near Green Petrol pump around 0800 hrs in the morning. However the well was dry. Zoo and forest officials arrived to rescue the panther, but it took them four hours,.....

SPOs fight Maoists for just Rs 1500

Dantewada, Chhattisgarh, Mar 16 (UNI) Thirty nine tribal youths, who were among those killed in the Naxalite attack at a police camp in South Bastar, were working as Special Police Officers (SPOs) on a honorarium of just Rs 1500 per month. The SPOs get no other benefits. Now, the police has announced to provide a solatium of Rs two lakh each to the family of SPOs who had lost their lives in the Naxalite attack on a police camp at Ranibodli.....
