Man gets lifer for killing spouse for her refusal to cook meat

Dumka, Mar 16 (UNI) A local court today sentenced life imprisonment to a man for killing his wife after she refused to cook chicken for him.

The incident took place on March 19 last year when Uttam Kumar ordered his spouse Jayanti to cook chicken that he wanted to take with liquor.

According to the prosecution in Jharkhand's Dumka district court, as Jayanti refused to oblige, he beat her to death using a stick and a knife.

Balasore, Mar 16 (UNI) Balasore District Additional Sessions Judge P Das today sentenced Mayadhar Sur (49) to life imprisonment on charges of killing Sangram Behera(8) of Palasia under Basta police station on May 6, 2000. According to the prosecution, the convict had inflicted multiple injuries on the victim by a sharp weapon while the boy was on his way to a Shiva temple. Aurangabad, Mar 16 (UNI) Unidentified criminals today looted Rs four lakhs from the possession of the manager of a nationalised bank at Haibaspur village under Haspura police station in the district. Police said three motorcycle criminals looted the amount from the manager of Deokund branch of the Punjab National Bank when he was on way to his office after withdrawal of the cash from Panchrukhiya branch of the same bank. Raids were on nab the criminals and recover the cash, police.....

Water supply has resumed in the city since last night

Agartala, Feb 26 (UNI) Drinking water supply has resumed in the city since last night, after three days of suspension owing to pollution in the Howrah river. People had, earlier, fallen ill and at least 10 had been admitted to the hospital after drinking the polluted water from the Howrah river. The river water was, reportedly, polluted by chemicals disposed from a paint factory in Kashipur. The owner of the factory was arrested and held in police custody for two weeks......

DAP driver hangs self, no suicide note found

New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) A 35-year-old driver of the Delhi Armed Police today allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at the barracks in Teen Murti Lane in New Delhi area. Brij Pal, posted with the 7th Battalion of the DAP, was found hanging at his Teen Murti barracks, where he was posted, at about 1630 hrs, according to sources. No suicide note has been found and inmvestigations were continuing, said the police. He lived in Delhi's Dakshinpuri area. UNI.....
