Lucknow SSP refuses to go to Meerut

Lucknow, Mar 16 (UNI) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Lucknow Rajiv Krishan has sent a petition to Election Commission urging it to reconsider his transfer to Meerut in the same capacity.

State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Anuj Kumar Bishnoi said here today the Commission had received an application from Mr Krishan citing reasons to reconsider his transfer.

EC had transferred him to Meerut last night, besides appointing officials in new posting including the state DGP.

In his application Mr Krishan had stated his background with Meerut and Lucknow, sources said.

Earlier, the state government had sought the transfer of Mr Krishan as his home town was Lucknow and as per the EC norms no official, engaged in election duty, could stay in his home town.

Kohima, February 20 (UNI) Altogether 12 candidates, including a woman, have filed nomination papers for the ensuing by-election to Dimapur-1 and Tuensang Sadar-II assembly constituencies, scheduled to held on March 8. A total of six candidates have filed their papers from Dimapur-1 and an equal number from the Tuensang Sadar-II assembly constituencies. Candidates, who will contest from Dimapur-1, include Atomi Zhimomi (NPF), Kevise Angami (BJP), Aheto V. Yepthomi (Congress), and Raj Kumar Paira, also of Congress, who has been kept.....

DMK, allies win 45 of 67 wards in Chennai corpn repoll

Chennai, Feb 20 (UNI) The DMK-led Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) today won as many as 45 of 67 wards in the Chennai City Corporation repolls, which were held on February 18 following a Madras High Court order in the wake of alleged largescale violence in the elction held in October last year.
