Load restriction likely in K'taka

Bangalore, Mar 16 (UNI) The Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (KPTCL) today warned that load restriction would be resorted to following temporary shutdown of power generation at Supa and Talcher units.

Advising the consumers to restrain from over consumption during peak hours, the KPTCL said in a release here that the State's present generation capacity was only 5,500 MW as against the peak demand of 6,000 MW. Following the shutdown of one unit at Supa (five MW) and another at Talcher (500 MW of which the State's share was 100 MW), it had become difficult to bridge the gap between demand and supply.

If the consumption did not come down, load restriction would be resorted to until power was available from these units, likely after a week, the KPTCL warned.
