K'taka Govt proposes to set up Music University in Mysore

Bangalore, Mar 16 (UNI) The Karnataka Government proposes to set up a Music University in Mysore to protect, preserve and enjoy music in all its harmony.

Announcing this in the budget for 2007-08, Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, who also holds the finance portfolio, said the Government had earmarked Rs five crore for the purpose. Karnataka was the only State representing the confluence of two great streams of music, Carnatic and Hindustani, he noted, recalling musical legends like Veene Sheshanna, Bidram Krishnappa, Kumara Gandharva, Bhimsen Joshi and Gangubai Hangal.

He announced setting up of a centre for Hindustani music in Dharwad at a cost of Rs five crore. Musical concerts in the name of P Kalinga Rao and Mysore Ananth Swamy would be conducted involving an expenditure of Rs one crore, he added.

Mr Yediyurappa said the residence of renowned Hindustani vocalist Gangubai Hangal would be renovated and developed into a museum at an investment of Rs 25 lakhs. The Government would also provide an assistance of Rs ten lakh to the Mallikarjun Mansur Trust.

K'taka Govt to take up Bangalore's development in a big way

Bangalore, Mar 16 (UNI) Various measures, including implementation of a 'valley project' to ensure proper directed flow of storm water and road improvement works, involving an investment of over Rs 800 crore are being taken up to ensure improved infrastructural facilities in the city. Several measures taken for welfare of women and children: Minister

Bhopal, Feb 22 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Women and Child Development Minister Kusum Mehdele today told the assembly that the government had initiated several measures for the development of women and children. Replying to supplementary questions raised by Mr Satyadeo Katare (Congress), Ms Mehdele said her department was implementing the points as announced in the Governor's address. Several announcements had been implemented, while the procedure was underway for others. These announcements will be fully implemented before the government completes its tenure......

Replies to MLAs' letter necessary: Vijaywargiya

Bhopal, Feb 22 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh Government today told the assembly that replies from various departments to letters of MLAs will be ensured. During the question hour, Mr Manoharlal Rathor said he had written a letter to departments concerned besides Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan regarding disbursing flood-relief amount but no reply was furnished. In the absence of Parliamentary Affairs Minister Narottam Mishra, Power Minister Kailash Vijaywargiya said directions had already been issued to all departments to provide replies to.....
