Infant's body found on Cauvery banks

Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, Mar 16 (UNI) The body of an infant boy was found wrapped in a dhoti on the banks of River Cauvery here today.

According to police, people who went to bathe in the river grew suspicious on seeing a cloth bundle kept on the steps of the Irwin Bridge across the river and informed the police.

Police reached the spot and recovered the body of a just-born boy from the bundle.

Investigation is underway to track the parents.

Surat, Mar 17 (UNI) A temple priest, hailing from Patna, was arrested here after a country-made pistol and four cartridges were recovered from him, crime branch sleuths said. Rameshwardas Mudrikasingh (42), a native of Patna district in Bihar, was working as priest in the Hanuman temple at Asthik Nagar Society in Godadara for the last two months. Police got a tip-off that the accused had a countrymade pistol with him, which he hides inside his 'dhoti'. Police arrested him Thursday evening.....

Naxals kill police patil

Nagpur, Feb 19 (UNI) Around five to six armed Naxalites killed a police patil, suspecting him to be a police informer, at village Kamke village in Gadchiroli district of Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) Petron Engineering Construction Ltd, engaged in construction and project engineering, has bagged orders worth over Rs 48 crore from Reliance Petroleum, Vedanta Alumina and Heurtey Petrochem Equipment. The order from Vedanta Alumina Ltd is for manufacturing, erection and commissioning of rodding shop at its new aluminium smelter at Jharsuguda, Orissa. The contract is worth Rs 28.73 crore. Police officer gunned down

Bihar Shariff, Feb 20 (UNI) Criminals shot dead a police sub-inspector Shiv Ram posted in Rahui police station of Nalanda district late Monday night. District Police Superintendent Amit Kumar said criminals attacked the police officer riding a two wheeler while he was returning from Bhaganbigha to his workplace.
