Indo-China trade surplus to touch $ 6bln

New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) A Chinese official today said it expects the trade surplus between the two countries to reach six billion dollar with the increasing volumes of trade in small and medium enterprises.

''Bilateral trade between the two countries is increasing, specially imports by India, which drew four billion dollars last year and this year we expect it to go up to six billion dollars,'' Department of Commerce of Yunnan Province Deputy Director General Li Jiming told UNI here today.

India imports phosphate fertilizers, heavy machineries and home appliances from China and exports cotton, iron ore, copper and tin, etc at a large number.

To further strengthen the Indo-China cross border trade, investment, economic and technical cooperation, Kunming province of South-West China is organising a commodities fair from June 6-10, 2007.

The event, '15th China Kunming Commodities fair', was announced by India China Economic and Cultural Council here today in the presence of Mr Jiming who said this will be an opportunity for Indian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to set up their businesses in China.

To make it easier for the traders and the participants, Mr Jiming said special charter flights will be flying from Kolkata to Kunming and vice versa from June 4.

He also said regular flights from Kunming to Kolkata will start from July this year.

'Lawyers should adopt social consciousness": Justice Shivraj Patil

Gulbarga, Mar 10 (UNI) National Human Rights Commission acting Chairman Justice Shivaraj Patil today called upon the Lawyers to adopt social consciousness as part of protecting civil rights. Speaking after inaugurating +National Moot Court Competition+ organised by Sidhartha Law College here, Justice Patil said that all must have social, economic and culture rights. "If social, economic and culture rights do not assume reality, civil right would not assume significance", he opined. "Social consciousness, Social justice and Social responsibility have to come.....

No products identified for low tariff cut, clarifies Govt

New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) The government today categorically denied that the Agriculture Ministry had identified 80 products for lower tariff cut. Denying a news item in a section of the press, it said the report was ''factually incorrect in many important respects and created a misleading impression.'' In a joint statement issued on behalf of Union Commerce and Agriculture Secretaries, the Government said the Department of Commerce and the Department of Agriculture had very closely coordinated in the Agriculture Negotiations.....

Tebtans appeal to the President for freedom

Bangalore, Mar 10 (UNI) Tibetans settled in Karnataka today appealed to President A P J Abdul Kalam to use his good office to free Tibet from China. In a memorandum addressed to Mr Kalam and submitted through the Governor T N Chaturvedi on 48th Anniversary of Tibetan National Uprising Day and copy of which released to the press here, it was stated that "with great hope and trust, we believe that your Excellency would, in your great capacity, do your utmost.....
