India has applied for Washington Accord membership

Puducherry,Mar 16(UNI) India has applied for a membership in Washington Accord with the support of the UK, Australia and Canada, chairman of All India Council of Technical Education Chairman Damodal Acharya said here today.

Speaking at the convocation ceremony of the Pondicherry Engineering College here this evening, Prof Acharya said he was hopeful of getting provisional membership now and permanent membership in another two years.

''Once the country become a member of the Washington Accord, all degrees of our accredited universities will be recognised for job oppertunities and higher education in the member countries,he added .

Prof Acharya also called for a shift in the focus of education to meet the global needs adding the council envisaged a plan to give more thrust on basic science and engineering like analytical skills, problem solving and group activites.

Appoint Administrative Member to KAT, K'taka Govt told

Bangalore, Mar 15 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court today directed the State Government to fill the vacant post of Administrative Member to the Karnataka Administrative Tribunal within three months. Gender budgeting cells set up in 50 departments

New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) Gender budgeting cells have been set up in 50 Central ministries/Departments, the Lok Sabha informed today. Minister of State for finance Pawan Kumar Bansal in a written reply said the budget provisions schemes that are substantially meant for the benefit of women as identified by the various Ministries/Departments in their budget allocations for 2007-08. 'Hrudaya Post' launched in Karnataka to help Heart Patients

Bangalore, Mar 15 (UNI) A unique rural healthcare facility ''Hrudaya post'' was launched in Karnataka today to enable heart patients in villages scan and send their medical reports to superspeciality hospital Narayana Hrudayalaya for consultation from a neighbourhood post office.
