Hema takes up slum dwellers cause in Rajya Sabha

New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) Film star Hema Malini today took up the slum dwellers cause in the Rajya Sabha bringing in 'The Jhuggi, Jhopri, Slums and Pavement Dwellers(Basic Amenities, Welfare and Miscellabeous Provision) Bill, 2006.

The legislation is aimed at providing basic amenities like drinking water, sanitation, electricity, healthcare to dwellers of these areas.

The Bill also seeks to ensure that the slums and pavement dwellers were not removed without providing for their proper rehabilitation.

Ms Malini also introduced the National Film Development Authority Bill, 2006 which seeks to establish an Authority for ensuring the overall development of the film industry and for other connected matters.

Besides these, the Registration of Foreigners (Amendment) Bill, 2006, the Divorcee Women Welfare Bill, 2007 were also introduced in the House today.

Among other Bills introduced were the Freedom Fighters and their Families (Welfare) Bill, 2007, The Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2007, The Traders, Businessmen, Professionals and Self-Employed Persons(Welfare and Social Security) Bill, 2007, The Prevention of Atrocities on Women Bill, 2007, The Rivers Desiltation Authority of India Bill, 2007, Financial Relief to the Natural Calamity Victims Bill, 2007, The Jharkhand Atomic Authority Bill, 2007, the Violent and Indecent Video Games (Prohibition on Distribution, Sale and Advertisement) Bill, 2007, and The Population Control and Family Welfare Bill, 2007.

US Energy Secretary to visit India for enhancing energy cooperation

Washington, Mar 17 (UNI) US Energy Secretary Samuel W Bodman will travel to New Delhi and Mumbai next week to highlight the ongoing cooperation between the United States and India to advance global energy security. CRPF to set up first Disaster Management Training Institute in Mah

Nagpur, Feb 19 (UNI) Central Reserve Police Force (Western Region) Inspector General of Police Atul Kumar Mathur today said CRPF was coming up with the country's first Disaster Management Training Institute at Latur in Maharashtra. Speaking to media during his visit to the city to attend the passing out parade of CRPF Camp here, Mr Mathur said the Disaster Management Training Institute would be ready within two years.
