HC stays arrest of Punjab Congress leaders brother

Chandigarh, Mar 16 (UNI) The Punjab and Haryana High Court today stayed till further orders the arrest of Punjab Police SP-ranking officer, Harmanbir Singh Gill, a brother of Congress leader Jasbir Singh Dimpa, who was defeated from the Beas assembly constituency..

The petitioner has alleged that he had falsely been implicated in the first information report (FIR) filed after the violent incident of January 29 in Beas constituency in which one person was killed during clash between Congress and Akali workers.

This, he alleged, had been done for political reasons since he happened to be the brother of the Congress candidate from that constituency. In fact, at the time of occurrence of the incident on January 29, he was in Chandigarh at the state police headquarters attending a meeting of officers on traffic.
