Govt releases 3.65 lakh tonne of wheat

New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) The Government has released 3.65 lakh tonnes of wheat to various States under the Open Market Sale Scheme (Domestic) during the months of February and March 2007 to check the prices of wheat.

According to an official statement issued here today, a stock of 30,000 Metric Tonnes (MT) of wheat was released to the National Capital Teritory (NCT) of Delhi.

In order to check rise in prices and keeping in view the progress of lifting of stocks, an additional quantity of 20,000 MT of wheat had been released to NCT Delhi on March 13, 2007. By February 15, 2007, 24,000 tonnes of wheat has already been lifted from FCI godowns in Delhi.

This wheat is being released at the rate of Rs 986.06 per quintal.

India's economic growth can have 'ripple effect': EAM

New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) India today said its economic growth can have ''ripple effect'' in the region and asked SAARC countries to share its progress through better allround cooperation including in the fight against terrorism. External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, in his address at the Indian Defence Studies and Analysis (IDSA), while expressing India's firm commitment to SAARC, said while individual countries would have to make these choices, India firmly believed that closer economic and developmental cooperation offered immense.....

Two die after tyre of motorcycles bursts

New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) Two youths died and another was injured when the tyre of a motorcycle which they were Riding burst in South Delhi last night, police said today. Naveen, Mithilesh and Pappu were going on a motorcycle when a tyre burst as a result of which in the motorcycle hit a railing at Ravi Das Marg in South Delhi at 2230 hours yesterday. Naveen died on the spot while Mithilesh and pappu were admitted to AIIMS where Mithilesh.....

Country cannot afford to neglect North-East: Shekhawat

New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat today underlined that poverty, unemployment, inadequacy of physical and economic infrastructure were the reasons for discontent among the people of he North-East and called for holistic development of the region. The country just cannot afford to neglect a region which has the potential to contribute enormously to the nation's development, he said. Expressing his great faith in the capacity and will of the people of the North-East, he hoped they will.....
