Govt dissociates itself from conference on SEZ

New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) The Goverment today said it would take action against organisers of a conference on SEZ for unauthorisedly associating the Union Agriculture Ministry with the event.

It said an advertisement appeared in a section of the Press on the event, 'National Conference on Special Economic Zones: Land Acquisition and Rehabilitation Policy', scheduled to be held on March 21 at Hotel Le Meridien here.

The Ministry of Agriculture was not supporting this event in any manner, nor did it wish to associate itself with any of the topics proposed to be discussed in the Conference, an official release here said.

''Suitable action is being taken against the organizers separately for unauthorised use of the name of the Ministry of Agriculture,'' it said.

241 inmates died in MP jails in three years

Bhopal, Mar 16 (UNI) As many as 241 inmates died in Madhya Pradesh's prisons over the past roughly three years while 68 escaped, Jails Minister Antar Singh Arya informed the Assembly today. Anna University, German Technical Cooperation ink MoU

Chennai, Mar 16 (UNI) The Anna University Centre for Environmental Studies and German Technical Cooperation (GTC) inked an MoU for exchanging information, helping to establish professional links with other institutions and demonstrating state-of-the-art technologies and process. Talking to media, Anna University Vice-Chancellor D Viswanathan yesterday said last year the University had received about Rs 50 crore from external agencies for research and development. Five people killed in two road mishaps

Mandya, Karnataka, Mar 12 (UNI) Five people, including a child, were killed on the spot and nine injured in two road mishaps near Mandya district of Karnataka, today. Police said two people were killed and nine injured when a private bus turned turtle on the Bangalore-Mysore State Highway, near here. The victims were a bus passenger and conductor.
