Five critically injured in a blast in Asom

Guwahati, Mar 16 (UNI) At least five people were seriously injured and several vehicles destroyed when a powerful explosion rocked a two-wheeler parking site at Paltanbazar area in the heart of the city today.

Police suspected that the blast was a handiwork of the banned ULFA militants.

The bomb was suspected to be planted in a motorcycle parked in the parking space beside the busy road.

Kolkata, Mar 16 (UNI) Life came to a grinding halt in West Bengal today as sporadic violence marked the opposition-sponsored statewide bandh in protest against Wednesday's police firing at Nandigram. Bandh supporters, belonging to the opposition Trinamool Congress, Congress and SUCI, disrupted railway services by squatting on tracks, put up road blockades, attacked government offices and set ablaze vehicles in different parts of the state. About 800 people were arrested in different parts of the state on various charges as bandh.....

Nandigram protests rake Singur embers

Singur, Mar 16 (UNI) Nandigram fire spilled into Singur today as the Krishi Jami Raksha Committee supporters dislodged the fencing of land for the Tata Motors's small car unit and tried to set afire a watch tower. Official sources said a large number of bandh supporters, who belonged to the Krishi Jami Raksha Committee, tried to uproot the logs and the barbed wire, which fenced the Tata land. Air services remain normal

Kolkata, Mar 16 (UNI) Air services at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) airport remained normal today, even as life elsewhere in the state was paralysed due to the opposition's 12 hr bandh to protest the police firing at Nandigram. Altogether 15 domestic flights departed in the morning, while five arrived, according to an Airport Authority of India (AAI) official. Most of the passengers catching early morning flight had stayed overnight at the airport or arrived before the bandh started......

Guwahati, Mar 16 (UNI) At least six people were injured, one of them critically, when an explosion rocked a motor-cycle parking lot beside the busy AT Road in the heart of the city today. At least 12 motorcycles were burnt in the fire, which engulfed the area following the blast. Police suspect the hand of the banned ULFA behind the explosion, which took place in front of Bishwa Ratna Hotel. The bomb was probably planted in one of the motor-cycles,.....
