Film to highlight growing threat to environment in Kerala

Kochi, Mar 16 (UNI) After attracting critical acclaim with his debut film 'Paghal,' on the problems of farmers in Kerala, director M A Nishad today announced that his next venture 'Nagar' will highlight the growing threats to environment in the state.

Dealing with a serious problem, the film would take a satirical look at the dumping of a city's waste in a nearby village, Mr Nishad said at a press conference here.

Popular Tamil and Malayalam actress Gopika will play the lead role in this heroine-dominated film, Mr Nishad said. The cast include Biju Menon, Kalabhavan Mani, Jagathy Srikumar, Jagdeesh, Harisree Ashokan and Lakshmi Sharma, he said.

The shooting for 'Nagar' will start next month at Palakkad and Kochi. The first copy would be ready by May and the film was expected to be released by June-July, Mr Nishad said.

Asked about the response to his first film 'Paghal' (Morning), Mr Nishad said over while not a big commercial hit, it had attracted critics' support and was slated to take part in one or two international film festivals.

Talking about his new venture, to be produced by Godson Films, Mr Nishad said though it was dealing with a serious subject, the film would have a touch of humour in it. ''This will be a commercial film, but with a different treatment. Music will play a key role in it,'' he added.

Replying to a question, he said it would not be a low-budget film. However, he did not disclose the estimated budget for the movie.
