EC bans transfer of prisoners from one jail to another in UP

Lucknow, Mar 16 (UNI) The Election Commission has banned the transfer of prisoners and undertrials from one jail to another with immediate effect and has directed the Uttar Pradesh government to provide it with the details of any transfer of prisoners made after the announcement of the poll dates.

State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Anuj Kumar Bishnoi said here that the prisoners can be transfered now only on the court's directive or following an approval from the commission.

He said the state government has also been asked to send all details if any such transfers were made after February 21.

Earlier, taking a tough stand the EC had asked all the district authorities to conduct regular raids in the jails and prevent the inmates from interfering into the election process.

95 nominations filed on day 4 for phase I of UP poll

Lucknow, Mar 16 (UNI) Altogether 95 nominations were filed today for the first phase of Uttar Pradesh elections for 62 assembly seats to be held on April 7. Work on Bihar-Jharkhand stretch of N H 2 to be expedited

New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) The work on the National Highway No 2 of the Golden Quadrilateral passing through Bihar and Jharkhand will be expedited. Lucknow SSP refuses to go to Meerut

Lucknow, Mar 16 (UNI) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Lucknow Rajiv Krishan has sent a petition to Election Commission urging it to reconsider his transfer to Meerut in the same capacity. State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Anuj Kumar Bishnoi said here today the Commission had received an application from Mr Krishan citing reasons to reconsider his transfer.
