Durga Temple to close in view of solar eclipse

Vijayawada, Mar 16 (UNI) The famed Sri Durga Malleswaraswamy Devasthanam atop Indrakeeladri will be closed from the evening of March 18 in view of solar eclipse.

A devasthanam official told UNI that the temple would be closed at 1900 hrs on March 18. After purification of Goddess Kanakadurga, the pilgrims would be allowed for darshan from 1230 hrs on March 19.

He said the Brahmarambika Mallikarjuna Swamy Vari Devasthanam at Srisailam, the Sitaramachandra Swamy Temple at Bhadrachalam and the Satyanarayana Swamy Temple at Annavaram would also be closed from the night March 18 and the devotees would be allowed for darshan after 'consecrating' the idol, the next day.

The eclipse commencing from 0600 hrs on March 19 would end at 0740 hrs.

The eclipse will be partial in Andhra Pradesh.

Bike, bullock cart rallies against Cauvery verdict

KPTCL official convicted in bribery case

Bangalore, Mar 13 (UNI) A Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited official was convicted and sentenced to one year's rigorous imprisonment each under two sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 14,000 for showing official favour. A court in Belgaum also slapped a fine of Rs 14,000 on KPTCL Section Officer (Balekundri taluk, Belgaum district) Tamanna Maruthi Potadar, in default to undergo three months simple imprisonment each under the two sections. CHESCOM Assistant Engineer caught redhand while accepting bribe

Madikeri, Mar 13 (UNI) A CHESCOM Assistant Engineer was caught red hand by Lokayukta sleuths while accepting bribe for showing official favour. Lokayukta sources said that Srinivas was caught red handed while accepting Rs 5,000 as a bribe to install transformer from Capt. Madappa of Hulugunda near Siddapur yesterday. Capt Madappa had applied for regularization of 20 H.P. motor to draw water from Cauvery River. He had paid Rs 28,000 fee and deposit to the Electricity Department. But Srinivas was demanding.....
