Day temperatures high at Assam, Meghalaya, Saurashtra

Pune, Mar 16 (UNI) Day temperatures were appreciably above normal in some parts of Assam, Meghalaya, Saurashtra, Kutch and of Konkan and Goa.

It was above normal in some parts of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, coastal Andhra Pradesh, south interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and of Kerala. They were appreciably to markedly below normal in Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and in some parts of Vidarbha and of Chattisgarh and were below normal in some parts of West Bengal, Sikkim, Orissa, north Madhya Maharashtra and of Marathwada.

They were normal over the rest of the country.

Cold wave conditions prevailed in some parts of east Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal and of Jammu and Kashmir. Night temperatures were markedly below normal in some parts of Jharkhand and of Bihar.

They were appreciably below normal in some parts of Orissa, Haryana, Punjab, west Madhya Pradesh and in remaining parts of Jharkhand and Bihar. It was below normal in some parts of West Bengal, Sikkim, Marathwada, Vidarbha and of Chattisgarh and in remaining parts of Orissa and east Uttar Pradesh. They were above normal in some parts of Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalseema and of coastal Karnataka.

They were normal over the rest of the country.

Rain or snow are likely to occur at isolated places in Uttaranchal, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.

Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Lakshadweep.

Mainly dry weather will prevail over Gangetic West Bengal, Orissa, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Andman and Nicobar Islands.

Rain or thundershowers have occurred at a few places in Arunachal Pradesh and at isolated places in Assam and Meghalaya, Gangetic West Bengal and Orissa.

Mainly dry weather prevailed over the Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand and Bihar.

Northeast Express derails

Katihar, Mar 16 (UNI) Train services between north India and the northeast remained disrupted for several hours following derailment of the engine of 2506 dn Northeast Express near Karhagola station under Katihar division of Northeast Frontier Railway early this morning today. Senior Commercial Manager, (Katihar division of NE Frontier Railway) R K Singh said the derailment occurred as the Guwahati-bound superfast train hit a buffalo trying to cross the track between Barhi and Karhagola stations. 12-hour "Bangla bandh" brings life to standstill

Kolkata, Mar 16 (UNI) Barring a few sporadic incidents, the Opposition-sponsored dawn-to-dusk ''Bangla bandh'' to protest the killing of 14 people at Nandigram, was by and large peaceful. Police Commissioner Prasun Mukherjee said sporadic incidents had been reported from several parts of the city, but there was ''nothing major.'' Tension prevailed in several areas where activists from rival political parties nearly came to blows but police intervened promptly to calm down the situation, he said, adding 150 people from different.....

Five critically injured in a blast in Asom

Guwahati, Mar 16 (UNI) At least five people were seriously injured and several vehicles destroyed when a powerful explosion rocked a two-wheeler parking site at Paltanbazar area in the heart of the city today. Police suspected that the blast was a handiwork of the banned ULFA militants. The bomb was suspected to be planted in a motorcycle parked in the parking space beside the busy road. UNI.....
