Cong CEC finalises 14 candidates for UP elections

New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) The Congress' Central Election Committee (CEC), headed by party president Sonia Gandhi, tonight finalised a list of 14 candidates for the first phase of the Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

The meeting was attended by AICC General Secretary incharge of Uttar Pradesh Ashok Gehlot, state party president Salman Khursheed, among others.

Following are the candidates: Avinash Mishra (Chaubepur), Shishupal Yadav (Jaswant Nagar), Yuvraj Bhadoria (Hamirpur), Rajinder Lodhi (Rath), Kamlesh Verma (Charkhari(SC), Akbar Ali (Kalp), Shivram Singh Kushwaha (Madhogarh), Upma Dixit (Bhongaon), Col. Naresh Yadav (Shikohabad), Nadira Begum (Patiali), Man Singh Verma (Soraon), Abhinav Chaturvedi (Firozabad), Rajesh Tiwari (Bah), Ram Tandon (Agra East).

It's music to ears as AIR releases CDs of great musicians

Chennai, Mar 8 (UNI) All India Radio (AIR), which had a very rich collection of recordings of great musicians and instrumentalists in their archives, today released the archival recordings in the form of CDs and cassettes for the benefit of music lovers. Akashvani Sangeet CDs and casettes of great masters of Carnatic music -- T R Mahalingam (flute) and Maharajapuram V Santhanam (Vocal)-- were released by Music Academy President N Murali at a function organised by Prasar Bharati and AIR here.....

Mulayam to contest on two seats in assembly polls

Lucknow, Mar 16(UNI) Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today announced that he would contest the forthcoming assembly elections from two seats. ''I have been forced to contest the elections from two seats -- Gunnaur and Barthana-- on demand of the people and a directive from my party,'' he said. ''I have to obey the demand of the people and of the party workers,'' he told mediapersons here. At present, the CM is a sitting member from Gunnaur assembly seat.....

Agents arrested, girls including minors rescued

Hyderabad, Mar 8 (UNI) As many as 274 agents were arrested and 296 girls, including 79 minor girls were rescued from brothel houses in the past two months, Andhra Pradesh Home Minister K Jana Reddy informed the state Assembly today. Replying to Mr Akbaruddin Owaisi and other AIMIM members special squads had been formed in Hyderabad, Eluru and Anatapur to curb trafficking in women and rescue women from brothel houses. Assuring the members to convene an all party meet to tackle.....
