Committee for increase in salary and allowances of MLAs

Bhopal, Mar 16 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Speaker Ishwardas Rohani today announced in the Assembly constitution of an eight-member committee for increase of salary and allowances of MLAs.

The committee will be headed by Vidhan Sabha Deputy Speaker Hazarilal Raghuvanshi, while Vidhan Sabha Secretary A K Pyasi will be the secretary of the committee.

Other members will include Parliamentary Affairs Minister Narottam Mishra, Ms Sudha Jain, Mr Lal Singh Arya, Mr Gyan Singh, Dr Govind Singh and Mr K K Singh.

The committee will submit its report to the Speaker.

Leader of Opposition Jamuna Devi said a committee was earlier constituted for increasing the honorarium retired people's representatives but the report had not been received so far.

CDs of plays, theatre songs to be released soon

Mangalore, Mar 8 (UNI) Theatre buffs will no longer miss the classic plays and theatre songs of yesteryears as the Karnataka Nataka Academy will release Compact Discs (CD) here on March 13 with a view to preserve them, Academy President Srinivas Gokappalli said today. Addressing a press conference here, he said the Academy would bring out the plays of six companies, about 200 theatrical songs sung by renowned theatre artist Enagi Ballappa of Belgaum, 80 songs rendered by theatre artiste Paramasivan.....

Woman claims to be Jagjivan's wife, takes away his body

Morena, MP, Mar 16 (UNI) A woman, who claimed to be the wife of dacoit Jagjivan Parihar, who was killed in an encounter with police along with six other dacoits yesterday, took away the bodies of Jagjivan, his brother Param Singh and his nephew, police said today. Bhind's Pura village-resident Guddi Bai (34) reached the mortuary this afternoon to claim the dead bodies. Police handed over the bodies to Guddi Bai. K'taka Cong women's wing seeks constitutional amendments

Udupi, Mar 8 (UNI) The Karnataka Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee will take a delegation to Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to urge them to bring in Constitutional amendments to the Dowry Prohibition Act, Hindu Marriage Act and Evidence Act, its General Secretary Shamala Bhandary said today. Addressing a press conference here, she said the decision was taken in view of court verdicts ''against the interests of women'' in several dowry related cases. Ms Bhandary underlined.....
