China ready to share hydrological data with India

Shimla, Mar 16 (UNI) Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma today said China had agreed to share hydrological data for the Sutlej basin on which a number of hydroelectric projects had been set up.

''The flow of information had already begun and this would help in effectively dealing with eventualities like the Pareechu lake burst,'' he said at a press conference here before the inauguration of a passport office here.

Mr Sharma said institutionalised mechanism would be put in place for flood warning and other similar exigencies.

Police commandant suspended after Bastar massacre

Raipur, Mar 16 (UNI) Chhattisgarh government today suspended the Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) 9th battalion commandant after Naxalites massacred 55 security personnel yesterday at the Ranobodli police camp in tribal Dantewada district in the pre-dawn hours. State Home Minister Ram Vichar Netam told UNI that CAF 9th Battalion Commandant Mohammad Hussain has been placed under suspension after it was found that he was absent from headquarters without informing the higher authorities. India concerned over rise of Taliban in Afghanistan

Shimla, Mar 16 (UNI) Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma today expressed concern over the regrouping of the Taliban in Afghanisthan and hoped that international forces present there would crush them. ''The regrouping of Taliban forces in Afghanistan is a cause of concern and we hope international security forces present there would be able to counter them,'' he said at a press conference here. Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu, Mar 16 (UNI) Five people including four nuns, were killed on the spot when the car in which they were travelling collided with a lorry at Siruganur on the Tiruchirapalli-Chennai National Highway early today. Police said the accident occurred when the occupants of the car were coming to Tiruchirapalli to attend a condolence meeting while a groundnut-laden lorry was proceeding to Chennai from Manaparai.
