Chaturvedi files bail application in session court

Mumbai, Mar 16 (UNI) Noted builder Rajendra Chaturvedi, who was arrested on March eight for his alleged involvement in a conspiracy to eliminate rival builder, filed a bail application today in the session court.

The bail application was filed on the grounds that section 302 (murder), which is levelled against him is not maintainable because nobody has died, secondly section 115 (abetment) which is bailable offence and thirdly the sharp shooter has not identified him so far.

The petition will come up for hearing tomorrow before acting Principal Judge R Y Ghanoo.

Chaturvedi was remanded to Police custody till March 20, yesterday by Metropolitan Magistrate Andheri Court for his alleged involvement in a conspiracy to eliminate rival builder Rashmikant Shah of Vijay group to gain control of a Rs 500 crore project of Abhyudaya Nagar in southcentral Mumbai.

Prosecution case is that Chaturvedi had allegedly hired contract killers through one Baba Udaynath Pratapsingh Chauhan, a ''spiritual leader'', to kill Mr Shah. While they were on their way to commit the offence, Juhu police arrested them.

They were identified as - Mohammed Jaffer Sheikh, Aslam Khan, Salim Qureshi and Vijay Vadkar.

Budget allocation for children's education, health inadequate: stu

New Delhi, Mar 4 (UNI) Eventhough the government has increased allocation for children to 5.08 per cemt of the total budget outlay, it was totally inadequate to provide growth and development to children who constitute over 40 per cent of population and face serious deprivations, according to experts. Decrease in the allocation for Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) programme, and inadequate outlays for child protection schemes were the major problem areas as far as budget was concerned,.....

HC adjourns hearing of petition challenging Supriya's electio

Mumbai, Mar 16 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today adjourned for a week hearing on a petition, challenging election to the Rajya Sabha of Supriya Sule, daughter of Maratha Strongman and Union Agriculture minister Sharad Pawar. The petitioner Vinod Vare, a resident of Mumbai, has challenged Supriya's election to the Rajya Sabha saying that she possesses property in Singapore, jointly with her husband. As per Singaporean rules only citizens of that country can purchase property there, that indicates that Supriya has.....

Mughal Gardens to remain open on March 5, despite being a Monday

New Delhi, Mar 4 (UNI) The Mughal Gardens of the Rashtrapati Bhawan shall be open for the general public tomorrow, despite being a Monday, between 1030 to 1730 hrs. No entry, however, to the Gardens shall be allowed after 1630 hrs on March 5, according to a Rashpati Bhawan communique. Generally the Gardens are kept closed for the public for maintenance purposes on Mondays. The exception has been made in view of them being closed on March 3 and 4 due.....
