Cauvery agitations continue in basin districts

Mysore, Mar 16 (UNI) Agitations continue in the Cauvery basin districts of Mandya and Mysore against he final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal today, despite the Karnataka Assembly unanimously adopting a resolution urging the Centre not to notify the award till a national water policy was framed.

In Mandya, farmers and others staged a protest at Maddur by hoisting black flags over Government offices and then took out a procession. Bullock cart processions and various other forms of protests continued in Mandya, Srirangapatana and Pandavapura.

The relay hunger strike by the Cauvery Hitarakshana Samithi continued at Silver Jubilee park.

Various protests were also held in Mysore.

PDK holds demo against National Security Act

Chennai, Mar 16 (UNI) Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (PDK) activists today staged a demonstration here today protesting the 'repressive' National Security Act. The demonstrators shouted slogans against the Tamil Nadu Government for allegedly detaining seven of its volunteers for the last 100 days under the Act. Indian announces low fares on Kerala-Bangkok sector

Kochi, Mar 16 (UNI) Indian today introduced promotional fares costing Rs 5,800 (excluding taxes) to Bangkok from Kerala. An Indian statement here said passengers can fly to Bangkok from Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram or Kozhikode via Chennai at Rs 5,800 under a special promotional scheme for a limited period from March 15 to May 31, 2007. India has applied for Washington Accord membership

Puducherry,Mar 16(UNI) India has applied for a membership in Washington Accord with the support of the UK, Australia and Canada, chairman of All India Council of Technical Education Chairman Damodal Acharya said here today. Speaking at the convocation ceremony of the Pondicherry Engineering College here this evening, Prof Acharya said he was hopeful of getting provisional membership now and permanent membership in another two years.
