Cases of misuse of SEZ customs duty concessions detected

New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) There were case of misuse of customs duty concessions provided to Special Economic Zones (SEZs), the Lok Sabha was informed today.

Minister of State for Finance S S Palanimanickam in a written reply said the highest misuse of customs duty concession was detected during 2003-04 which was to the tuneofRs 117.17 crores.

This however gradually declined to Rs 0.28 crores during 2006-07 upto February, 2007.

New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) More than 145 Sub Glacial Lakes have been identified beneath the Antarctic ice sheet by scientists, the Lok Sabha was informed today. Minister of Science, Technology and Earth Science Kapil Sibal said in a written reply that most of these lakes lie below 3000 to 4000 meter (M) thick ice sheet. The largest sub glacial Lake Vostok occupies an area of about 14,000 km lying below about 4000 m thick ice sheet. He said global warming.....

Govt assures full protection to SC Judge, awaiting CJI report

New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) The Government today assured the Rajya Sabha that full protection will be given to Supreme Court judge A R Lakshmanan who had received an anonymous letter casting aspersion on him for his way of dealing with the disproportionate assets case against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav. Minister of State for Home S Reghupathy, however, told the House the Government would formally react to the whole episode after it received a report from the Chief.....

No evidence of organ trade in Nithari killings found: Govt

New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) The government today said no evidence has been found so far to connect Nithari incident in Noida with the trade of human organs. Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss informed this to the Rajya Sabha in a written reply today. Appropriation (Vote on Account) Bill passed

New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) The Lok Sabha today passed the Appropriation (Vote on Account) Bill, 2007, allowing the government to withdraw Rs 394155.54 crore from the Consolidated Fund of India as moneys required to meet expenditure for part of the financial year 2007-08. The amount will also go towards meeting the grants made in advance by the Lok Sabha in respect of the estimated expenditure of the government. The House also passed the Appropriation Bill, 2007, allowing the government.....

Centre in constant touch with Chhattisgarh govt:Patil

New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) Expressing his deep anguish and sadness over yesterday's naxal attack on a police camp in Chhattisgarh, in which 55 police personnel were killed, Home Minister Shivraj Patil informed the Lok Sabha today that the Centre was in constant touch with the state government.
