Appropriation (Vote on Account) Bill passed

New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) The Lok Sabha today passed the Appropriation (Vote on Account) Bill, 2007, allowing the government to withdraw Rs 394155.54 crore from the Consolidated Fund of India as moneys required to meet expenditure for part of the financial year 2007-08.

The amount will also go towards meeting the grants made in advance by the Lok Sabha in respect of the estimated expenditure of the government.

The House also passed the Appropriation Bill, 2007, allowing the government to appropriate Rs 386336.76 crore out of the Consolidated Fund for the financial year 2006-07.

The Bills were introduced by Finance Minister P Chidambaram during the course of his Budget reply, amid a furore created by the Opposition over the Nandigram violence.

No formal assessment of NRHM done: Govt

New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) The government has done no formal assessment of the National Rural Health Mission which was launched in 2005-06, the Rajya Sabha was informed today. Under NRHM Panchayati Raj Institutions own and manage health facilities, Minister for Health and Family Welfare Anbumoni Ramadoss said in a written reply. Asked whether the PRIs face any constraints in respect to finances and expert health workers in implementing NRHM, Dr Ramadoss said NRHM provisions for flexible funds for the Panchayats.....

Patil claims normalcy in Nandigram

New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) The UPA Government today claimed the overall situation at Nandigram, where at least 14 people were killed and many injured in police firing on Wednesday, was under control. Making a statement in the Lok Sabha on Nandigram violence, Home Minister Shivraj Patil said the Centre had assured all possible help to the State government to restore complete peace and normalcy in the area and it was in constant touch with the State government on the matter......
