Andaman to get a new daylong tourist destination

Port Blair, Mar 16 (UNI) Andaman and Nicobar Islands will soon get its first theme park here.

A delegation of Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC) recently met Union Minister for Urban Development S Jaipal Reddy in New Delhi and discussed with him the proposed project for the development of Gandhi Park into a daylong tourist destination, PBMC chairperson Sher Singh told UNI today.

Lone Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Manoranjan Bhakta, who planned the meeting, led the delegation.

A brief report of the proposed project was presented with power point and explained in detail to the Minister of Urban Development.

The India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) and the Port Blair Municipal Council had already signed an agreement for the execution of the project, he added.

He said the project is estimated at Rs 180 crore.

''The blueprint is ready and Rs 55 crore will be spent in the first phase,'' he said.

Food poisoning kills three in Bihar

Agitation against the verdidct continued in the Cauvery Basin

Mysore, Mar 10 (UNI) Protest and agitations continued against the final award of Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal in the Cauvery basin districts of Mandya, Mysore and Chamarajanagar today. Vacant village head's post to be filled soon: Deputy CM

Ranchi, Mar 16 (UNI) Jharkhand's Deputy Chief Minister Stephen Marandi today said posts of traditional village heads lying vacant would be filled by appointing Pradhan, Manaki and Munda in state.
