West Bengal Bandh; Air services remain normal

Kolkata, Mar 16: Air services at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) airport remained normal today.

Altogether 15 domestic flights departed in the morning, while five arrived, according to an Airport Authority of India (AAI) official.

Most of the passengers catching early morning flight had stayed overnight at the airport or arrived before the bandh started.

Domestic airlines Indian operated flights to Port Blair, Mumbai, Silchar and Delhi in the morning. Indian flights from Bangalore and Mumbai arrived on schedule.

In all 14 international flights arrived and departed from the NSCBI airport.

These included flights of British Airways, Emirates Air, Indian's Bangkok flight and Druk Air to Bangkok.

However, life in the state was paralysed following the Opposition-sponsored 12-hour bandh today to protest the police firing at Nandigram in which 14 people were killed.

Fog paralyses London's Heathrow airport again

London, Dec 22: Thousands of travellers struggling to get home for Christmas faced another day of chaos and frustration today as London's Heathrow airport was blanketed in fog. ''The weather across much of the UK is regrettably showing little sign of improvement,'' said Geoff Want, director of ground operations for British Airways which has cancelled all domestic flights.
