Air services remain normal

Kolkata, Mar 16 (UNI) Air services at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) airport remained normal today, even as life elsewhere in the state was paralysed due to the opposition's 12 hr bandh to protest the police firing at Nandigram.

Altogether 15 domestic flights departed in the morning, while five arrived, according to an Airport Authority of India (AAI) official.

Most of the passengers catching early morning flight had stayed overnight at the airport or arrived before the bandh started.

Domestic airlines Indian operated flights to Port Blair, Mumbai, Silchar and Delhi in the morning. Indian flights from Bangalore and Mumbai arrived on schedule.

In all 14 international flights arrived and departed from the NSCBI airport.

These included flights of British Airways, Emirates Air, Indian's Bangkok flight and Druk Air to Bangkok.

Shillong, Mar 16 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam today said he is in no mood to talk about the presidential election. "I am enjoying the hospitality of the beautiful northeastern states and dreaming how to develop this region. I am in that mood now," the President told reporters at the Raj Bhawan here. Mamata urges PM to visit Nandigram

Kolkata, Mar 16 (UNI) Alleging that the magnitude of Nandigram mayhem was huge, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee today urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to visit the area for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation. "The Prime Minister should personally visit Nandigram to know what happened instead of taking account of a party. He should talk to the injured people and their families," she told reporters.
