46,000 dwellings for urban poor

Bhopal, Mar 16 (UNI) More than 46,000 dwellings will be built for the poor of cities as well as small towns of Madhya Pradesh, Housing and Environment Minister Jayant Malaiya told the Assembly today.

Replying to budgetary demands for 2007-08 for his department, Mr Malaiya said 32,313 dwellings will be built in cities for poor besides more than 14,000 houses in small towns at an expenditure of Rs 701.22 crore.

Under the Jawharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission, Rs 1,452 crore had been sanctioned for development of infrastructure in four districts -- Indore, Bhopal, Jabalpur and Ujjain.

Besides, several schemes were being launched for development of small towns.

He informed that more than Rs 295 crore had been approved for bus rapid transit mechanism in Indore and Bhopal.

Referring to depletion in ground water level, Mr Malaiya said schemes like Jalabhishek Abhiyan and Balram Talab had given good results.

Five private buses burnt in fire mishap

Bangalore, Mar 8 (UNI) Five private buses were burnt in a fire mishap at a garage in the teeming K R Market area in the city today. Wilson Garden police said a suspected short circuit was believed to be the cause of the fire. Six fire tenders rushed to the spot and doused the fire. However, the five private buses parked inside the garage were fully burnt, police added. UNI.....

UP last in e-governance among 20 States, Goa top

Bangalore, Mar 8 (UNI) Goa is ranked as the best e-governed State in the country, followed by Karnataka in a study conducted by research firm IDC India for leading IT industry magazine, Dataquest. Delhi stood third in the ranking, while the fourth and fifth places were taken by Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh respectively, IDC said in a release here today. Among the States having the poorest record in e-governance was Uttar Pradesh, with the other laggards being Himachal Pradesh, Orissa, Punjab.....
