235 Cadets perform combined display; audience open-mouthed

Chennai, Mar 16 (UNI) A day before formal induction into the Indian Army after their arduous and rigorous training at the Officers Training Academy (OTA) here, 235 Cadets, including 73 Lady Cadets, today performed a combined display that kept the audience spellbound.

Some of the skills displayed by the passing-out cadets of the OTA included, Horse Riding and Tent pegging, Parasailing, Martial Arts display, Band Display, Para Drop and Motorcycle Display.

After their breathtaking jumps from parachutes and para display, the Combined Band Display of Artillery Centre, Nasik, Madras Engeering Group, Banglore, and Signal Training Centre, Jabalpur, conducted by Sub Maj Joseph VJ of Artillery Centre provided a fitting end to the nearly two-hour-long show.

The Motorcycle display by the daring riders of the Signal Training Centre, Jabalpur, was led by Capt R Sharma. The display, included group stunts like the Pyramid, Scissor Crossing as well as Individual stunts like Seat Salute, Tank Salute, and Carrier Salute.

The audiences were also enthralled by the various acrobatic jumps with the motorcycle.

It was a proud moment for 69 cadets of the OTA at the medal presentation ceremony, where they received medals and trophies for their performance during the course of the training here.

Major General R K Swamy, Commandant, OTA gave away the awards at an impressive function at OTA last evening.

The awards were given for overall performance and individual showing in different aspects during the course, including firing, academic, sports and others.

Among the winners were nine Lady Cadets, who also hogged the limelight for their exemplary show during the training.

The evening was not just about honouring but there was entertainment too.

The Band Concert presented by OTA band kept the audience breathless throughout the evening.

CM honours Mauritian Hindi writer

New Delhi, Mar 2 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today hosted a reception in honour of eminent Hindi writer from Mauritius Abhimanyu Anat and well-known Urdu poetess from Pakistan, Fahmida Riyaz. Speaking on the occasion, Ms Dikshit said both Hindi and Urdu literature had been disseminating human values.
