Two NSCN-IM militants shot dead by rival group

Kohima, Mar 15 (UNI) Two NSCN-IM cadres were abducted by suspected rival NSCN(K) activists and later shot dead in Zunheboto district last evening, official sources said today.

According to official reports, one of the NSCN-IM cadres was abducted from Akuluto town and the other from Lumami village, after which they were both shot and killed at a place between Lumami and Lumthsami village at about 1730 hrs.

Imphal, Mar 15 (UNI) The All Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMWJU) today condemned the assault on journalists by some jawans of 38 Assam Rifles at Kotlen in Senapati district yesterday. AMWJU sources said the AR personnel assaulted these journalists, while they were taking a report on the alleged rape of an 18-year-old girl by a few AR jawans on March 13. The troops also threatened the journalists to erase the photographs of the incident in which the troops were seen.....

Bangalore, Mar 3 (UNI) India has the dubious distinction of ranking top in rabies deaths among the Asian countries, with over 20,000 deaths reported every year, Dr F X Meslin of the World Health Organisation (WHO) said today. Delivering a lecture on 'Rabies in Asia: Current Scene and WHO's Role in Control' at the scientific session of the first annual conference of Rabies in Asia (RIA) RIACON-2007 here, he said that according to a WHO study, more than two billion people.....

Anantha Rangachar to be conferred Ved Ratna Puraskar

Bangalore, Mar 3 (UNI) Vedic scholar N S Anantha Rangachar will be conferred with the Gangeshwaranand Veda Rathna Puraskar for his excellence in Rig Veda by Karnataka Governor T N Chaturvedi at Raj Bhavan here on March seven. Jagannath temple files certificate case against farmers

Puri, Mar 15 (UNI) The Sri Jagannath temple administration has filed nearly 500 certificate cases in the special certificate court claiming over Rs.60 lakh from tenant farmers for not paying the temple dues for the last six years. According to sources, farmers of different villages were allowed to cultivate in the temple land on annual payment of Rs 1600 per acre a year. The farmers had taken the land for cultivation but failed to pay the dues despite several reminders.....
