Three arrested in Mumbai in Sena corporator's murder case: Mhetre

Mumbai, Mar 15 (UNI) Three persons have been arrested in connection with the murder of Shiv Sena corporator Kamlakar Jamsandekar in the metropolis, Maharashtra Minister of State Siddhram Mhetre informed the State Legislative Assembly today.

The arrested have been identified as Ajit Rane, Pratap Godse and Krishna Salvi, Mr Mhetre said in response to a calling attention notice by leader of opposition Ramdas Kadam and others.

Intervening in the discussion, Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil said the police had information that the murder could be the result of a political rivalry during the civic elections held last month.

He said the Congress, NCP and Akhil Bharatiya Sena (ABS) workers had held a meeting prior to the murder. He would not like to divulge any more details as it would hamper the police investigation, he added.

Earlier, during the question hour, the Lower House witnessed two adjournments for ten minutes each, as the Opposition demanded its adjournment notice on setting aside the day's business and taking up discussion on the deteriorating law and order situation, be taken up.

Speaker Babasaheb Kupekar rehected the demand, stating that the issue was being taken up through a calling attention notice and discussion on the law and order situation during the day and there was no need for suspension of the day's business to discuss the issue.

Meanwhile, the opposition forced two adjournments for 15 minutes and ten minutes each, when Marketing Minister Harshvardhan Patil was not present to table the bill to amend the Maharashtra Agricultural Produce Marketing (Development and Regulation) Act 1963.

Mr Patil later replied that he was in the Legislative Council, where three questions regarding his ministry were taken up during the question hour.

The opposition members were satisfied after the Minsiter tendered an apology.
