Ten die, 15 injured as earth caves in near Kusunda mines

Dhanbad, Mar 15 (UNI) Ten people, including seven of a family, were killed and 15 others injured after land caved in near the residential colony of Bharat Coking Coal Limited's Kusunda Coal Mines in Jharkhand's Dhanbad district in the early hours today.

All the injured, five of them critically, have been admitted to the central hospital here, official sources said.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda ordered a probe into the matter.

Police said mine loader Md Shamim, his wife and five others of the family were killed on the spot, adding another three also died in the accident.

According to official sources, the government had been advising the people of that locality to shift to another site but they refused to do so. A fire zone was underneath the spot, the sources added.

The earth caved in at about 0300 hrs to 0400 hrs.

The bodies had been sent for a post-mortem.

Foolproof security for Kalam in Meghalaya

Shillong, Mar 15 (UNI) The Meghalaya government has made foolproof security arrangements here in view of President A P J Abdul Kalam's visit tomorrow.
