SriLankan airlines starts flight to Jeddah, raises Goa frequency

Panaji, Mar 15 (UNI) SriLankan Airlines, since commencement of its operations to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia this year, has increased its service to 51 international destinations in 28 countries.

The airlines had also decided to introduce the third weekly flight to Goa from March 30 this year and back with passenger occupancy almost doubled since it introduced bi-weekly flights to this international tourist destination from Colombo a few months ago.

Disclosing this to reporters here today, SriLankan Airlines Western India Manager Mr Diomuthu Tennakoon and Goa Sales Manager Ms Manimegalai said the airlines had now been operating 19 frequencies to Europe, 41 to the Far East, 39 to the West Asia, two to Jeddah and 112 to India.

India, they said, continued to be the second most favoured tourist destination to the people of SriLanka. At the sametime, the number of Indians visiting the island nation had been rising year after year.

As many as 1,10,000 passengers visited SriLanka last year and the number was expected to touch 1,50,000 this year with the airlines offering attractive packages.

Recently, the SriLankan Airlines following had increased its frequency to Mumbai from Colombo to seven services rise in demand.

Its domestic air taxi service was also made available to 14 destinations to facilitate the tourists, they added.

Ten die as earth caves in near Kusunda mines

Dhanbad, Mar 15 (UNI) Ten people, including seven of a family, were killed when land caved in near a residential colony of Bharat Coking Coal Limited(BCCL)'s Kusunda coal mines here early today. Official sources said five people were admitted to the Central Hospital here in a critical condition. Police said mine loader Md Shamim, his wife and five of his family members were killed on the spot. Three more persons also died in the accident. According to official sources a fire.....

Bhattacharjee demands CBI inqiry into yesterday's incident

Kolkata, Mar 15 (UNI) Regretting yesterday's loss of lives in Nandigram, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today said he favoured a CBI inquiry into the police firing and asserted that the proposed chemical hub would not be set up in the area against the people's wishes. '' We want CBI to go for an inquiry into the incident. Let it find out what happened there and why did the clash take place,'' he told the West Bengal Assembly while welcoming.....

President Kalam to visit Shillong tomorrow

Shillong, Mar 15 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam will be on his second visit to Meghalaya tomorrow. Security has been tightened in Meghalaya in view of the President's visit who will be arriving here at 1030 hrs from Nagaland by a special Indian Air Force helicopter. Soon after his arrival, Dr Kalam will go to Raj Bhawan and then proceed to Meghalaya Legislative Assembly to address the 60-member house. This will be first time that India's.....
