Rahul to kick off roadshow on March 18 in UP

Lucknow, Mar 15: AICC member and Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi would kick off a three-day roadshow in Western Uttar Pradesh beginning March 18 to campaign for party candidates in the coming Assembly elections, while the party is expected to release the list of 62 candidates contesting in phase I today. Interestingly, while the Congress has taken a lead over other political parties in starting campaign, the roadshow would essentially cover constituencies going for elections during Phase II (April 13) and Phase III (April 18).

During his three day roadshow, Mr Gandhi would also address public meetings in at least three places. His carcade would taverse through over 300 km in four districts of Ghaziabad, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Moradabad and Bareilly.

UP Congress in charge of organisation Satyadev Tripathi told reporters here Rahul would begin his roadshow from Ghaziabad on Sunday and end it on Tuesday at Bareilly.

On day one, Rahul would traverse through eight constituencies of Ghaziabad and Meerut districts, covering a total distance of 126 km.

He would address two public meetings, one each in Muradnagar and Hastinapur in Meerut district the same day.

Covering 165 km on day two, Rahul would cover nine constituencies of Muzzafarnagar. He would address at least one meeting at Muzaffarnagar (city).

During the last Lok Sabha elections, AICC president Sonia Gandhi, along with Rahul, had canvassed for the party largely through roadshows.

Counting begins in K'taka Assembly elections

Bangalore, May 25: Counting commenced at 0800 hrs today for the 224 member Karnataka Assembly for which elections were held in three phases amidst tight security arrangements. The State witnessed 64.72 per cent polling in the current elections sealing the fate of 2242 candidates, which included 108 women. The final results were expected to be announced by 1500 hrs. Bharatiya Janata Party, which made an all out effort to capture power, is contesting for all the 224 seats with prominent candidates.....
