Rahul to kick off roadshow on March 18

Lucknow, Mar 15 (UNI) AICC member and Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi would kick off a three-day roadshow in Western Uttar Pradesh beginning March 18 to campaign for party candidates in the coming Assembly elections, while the party is expected to release the list of 62 candidates contesting in phase I today.

Interestingly, while the Congress has taken a lead over other political parties in starting campaign, the roadshow would essentially cover constituencies going for elections during Phase II (April 13) and Phase III (April 18).

During his three day roadshow, Mr Gandhi would also address public meetings in at least three places. His carcade would taverse through over 300 km in four districts of Ghaziabad, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Moradabad and Bareilly.

UP Congress in charge of organisation Satyadev Tripathi told reporters here Rahul would begin his roadshow from Ghaziabad on Sunday and end it on Tuesday at Bareilly.

On day one, Rahul would traverse through eight constituencies of Ghaziabad and Meerut districts, covering a total distance of 126 km.

He would address two public meetings -- one each in Muradnagar and Hastinapur in Meerut district the same day.

Covering 165 km on day two, Rahul would cover nine constituencies of Muzzafarnagar. He would address at least one meeting at Muzaffarnagar (city).

During the last Lok Sabha elections, AICC president Sonia Gandhi, along with Rahul, had canvassed for the party largely through roadshows.

Govt forms committee to ensure transparent administration

Chennai, Mar 8 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government has constituted a committee to give necessary recommendations to remove red tapism and ensure transparent and corruption-free administration. The ten-member Administrative Reforms Committee would be headed by former Madras High Court Judge A K Rajan, an official release said here today. Rajnath's son in the 317 BJP list for UP

Lucknow, Mar 15 (UNI) The BJP has released a list of 317 candidates for the coming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh which includes Pankaj Singh, son of party chief Rajnath Singh and almost 100 new faces. However, Mr Pankaj Singh has declined to contest. Despite all sitting members except 20 -- who had cross voted against the party in assembly -- getting the nod, the Central Election Committee of the BJP preferred youth as party candidates for the politically most important.....

MoU inked with Canadian varsity for joint academic activities

Chennai, Mar 8 (UNI) Rajalakshmi Engineering College, a self financing college, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Canada-based University of Regina, to take up joint educational and research activities. Under the agreement, both the institutions have mutually agreed to cooperate on general forms such as joint educational and research activities, exchange of academic materials and publications, a college release here said.
