Postman replaces King on Nepalese coin

Kathmandu, Mar 15 (UNI) Giving a go-ahead to Nepal's decision of taking the King's portrait out of currency, the Nepal Rashtriya Bank has released currency with the image of a postman for the first time after the restoration of democracy in the Himalayan nation.

The Central Bank introduced a coin with the portrait of a postmaster carrying posts and another Rs 25 coin on the occasion of 135 years of the use of postal stamps in Nepal.

Nepal government decided to take the King's portrait out of the currency and notes after the restoration of democracy in the Himalayan nation in April last year.

One side of the coin bears the image of the postman with a post bag in one hand and spear in another hand.

The postman is also shown clad in National dress, including cap, Daura ( loose shirt) Patuka (traditional belt) and waistcoat.

The other side depicts the image of the post stamp published in 1938 for the first time in Nepal, with the caption in both Nepali and English.

NDA to launch agitation against centres policies

Aizawl, Mar 14 (UNI) Mizoram Governor Lt Gen (Retd) M M Lakhera has assured to soon transform Mizoram into a corridor to the east. Addressing the tenth session of fifth state Assembly yesterday, Mr Lakhera said the Centre under the 'Look East Policy' had agreed to take up two major projects for the economic deelopment of the state.
