One killed in tanker-truck collision

Anand, Mar 15 (UNI) An oil tanker driver was burnt to death and two others were injured when the tanker was hit from behind by a tempo after a head-on collision with another truck earlier, near Asodhar Char Rasta, 15 kms away from Anand, in the wee hours of today.

Police sources said the incident occured on the National Highway No 8 when the oil tanker, on its way from Baroda to Vidyanagar, collided head-on with a truck. The empty tanker caught fire after the accident when a tempo hit it from behind.

Due to the impact of the accident, oil tanker driver Pradip Saroj (40), a resident of Uttar Pradesh, who stuck inside the truck cabin was charred to death.

Two others, who tried to rescue the tanker driver immediately after the accident, received burn injuries. Both of them have been admitted to a local hospital.

Five killed in two separate accidents in Beed

Beed, Maharashtra, Mar 16 (UNI) At least five persons were killed on the spot and five others injured in two separate accidents here today, police sources said. According to police, in the first incident three persons were killed on the spot and five others injured seriously when an autorickshaw they were travelling in, collided head-on with a speedy jeep coming from the opposite direction on the Beed-Parali state highway, about 25 km away from here. There has to be social campaign against child labour: Iynger

Ahmedabad, March 16 (UNI) Vice-Chancellor of Gujarat Vidhyapeth today said a social campaign was needed to fight child labour. He was speaking at the opening of the two-day workshop on issues of child-labour. Mahatma Gandhi Labour Institute Director General Arun Sutaria stressed on the need to launch an awareness drive against child labour. There are 211 million child labourers in the world. Of these, the largest number of such labourers are from India. According to 2001 sensus, India has 12.59 million.....
