Omkareshwar project to produce electricity this month

Bhopal, Mar 15 (UNI) The 520 MW Omkareshwar Hydroelectric Power (OSP) project on the Narmada river in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh is nearing completion.

Construction of OSP dam along with 23 radial gates was completed. The first unit of power house was almost completed and will start generating power in March, as per an official release.

Permission had been sought from the state government to fill the OSP reservoir for the purpose.

The project's construction had started in October 2003. It took 3.5 years to complete the dam and its first unit.

The project has eight power units, which will start production one by one by September, the release added.

Women's day: K'taka Govt announces awards

Bangalore, Mar 2 (UNI) The Karnataka Government today announced 23 awards, including four in the name of Ms Yashodamma Dasappa, the first woman Minister of the State, to individuals and institutions who had contributed to the welfare of women. Policy for rehabilitating tribals soon

Bhopal, Mar 15 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh Government today informed the Assembly that a policy will be made containing provision for providing fertile land and other facilities for rehabilitating tribals put up on forest lands.
