Maruti cars get dearer by upto Rs 1,017 from today

New Delhi, Mar 15 (UNI) Hit by the increased education cess announced in this year's Budget, Maruti Udyog Ltd today hiked prices of all its models by upto Rs 1,017 across all cities.

The price hike is effective from today.

''While the cess changes announced in the Union Budget 2007-08 came into effect from March 1, 2007, the company had decided to maintain its ex-showroom prices at pre-budget levels for a fortnight,'' a Maruti statement said.

Post the price hike, Swift would be costlier by Rs 656-818 across different variants.

The base model of Swift will now cost Rs 4,68,657 as against the earlier price of Rs 4,68,000 (ex-showroom Delhi).

Zen Estilo Vxi will now cost Rs 3,74,019 as against the earlier price of Rs 3,73,500.

The company's decision was keeping in mind customers who had postponed their purchases expecting certain taxes and duties to come down, in the Union Budget, the statement added.

Vodafone clinches deal with Essar, to reach top slot in 3 yrs

Vodafone Chief invites India telcos to work together

New Delhi, Mar 15 (UNI) Mobile phone giant Vodafone today invited local mobile services providers like Bharti to build infrastructure for mobile penetration in the country, especially in the rural areas. ''Mittal's and others can come and join us in building up mobile network infrastructure,'' Vodafone Chief Arun Sarin said. Last month, Vodafone entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airtel-Bharti for infrastructure sharing, roaming and long distance services. Ferrous metal prices rise further

Mumbai, Mar 16 (UNI) Ferrous metal prices today rose further on lesser stocks supply from industrial users in view of firm advice from London Metal Exchange (LME), traders at the Bombay Metal Exchange (BME) said today. In ferrous segment, copper heavy and brass utensils edged up by Rs 700 and Rs 200 per quintal due to good demand from retailers. Copper utensils and brass cuttings also increased by Rs 500 each per quintal on increased of fresh demand. In non-ferrous category,.....
