Manipur Assembly session to begin tomorrow

Imphal, Mar 15 (UNI) The first session of the Ninth Manipur Assembly will begin tomorrow.

The Speaker would also be elected tomorrow followed by the customary speech by Governor S S Sidhu.

The ruling Secular Progressive Front led by chief minister O Ibobi Singh had 29 Congress MLAs, 4 CPI MLAs, 3 RJD MLAs and 3 NPP MLAs.

Independent candidates Sapam Kunjeshore and Haokholet Kipgen have already announced their decision to support the ruling government.

Mr Singh had won from two constituencies and had relinquished Khangabok constituency earlier.

The vote of accounts would be presented along with two financial bills and the members of the three financial committees would also be elected, Assembly officials said.

"Night curfew" partially withdrawn in Meghalaya

Shillong, Mar 15 (UNI) The indefinite 'night curfew' imposed by mass organisations in Meghalaya was partially withdrawn today after Chief Minister D D Lapang assured the agitating Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) leaders to concentrate on development activities. However, the Garo Student's Union refused to bow down and decided to continue with the indefinite 'curfew' in the three districts of Garo Hills. '' We are not so cheap that we will surrender before Mr Lapang. The indefinite 'curfew' will continue.....

Government plans to develop social service sector

Itanagar, Mar 15 (UNI) The state has given highest priority to the social service sectors, followed by road and energy sectors in the annual plan for the forthcoming fiscal, Governor M M Jacob said here today. Addressing the legislators on the opening day of the five-day budget session which began this morning, Mr Jacob disclosed that the annual plan has given special emphasis to infrastructural development in education, primary health and road connectivity. The state had formulated need-based schemes under one-time.....

Parapet collapse claims eight lives

Ara, Mar 15 (UNI) Eight people, including five children, were killed and 40 others injured when a building's parapet collapsed during a wedding ceremony at Amaruhan village under Chauri police station in Bhojpur district last night, an official today said. District magistrate Bishwanath Singh said the parapet collapsed as the roof of the bulding was over-crowded. The injured were rushed to Sadar hospital near here, police said. A team of doctors and paramedical staff was also sent to the village for.....
