HEIL unit closed in Howrah

Howrah, Mar 15 (UNI) The rail wagon factory of Hindustan Engineering Industries Limited (HEIL) at Santragachi was closed down today following labour dispute.

About 1,100 workers were employed at the factory.

The factory management alleged that a 'jungle raj' was continuing in the factory by the labourers.

According to the workers union, they were not given their salaries for the last two months alleging the management had employed contract labourers in the factory depriving them of their dues.

The Labour Commissioner was informed about the incident, the union observed.

Stray dog attacks four children in Mysore

Mysore, Mar 3 (UNI) After two kids were mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs in Bangalore recently, it was the turn of four children from this city to be attacked and injured by a stray dog, this evening. Police said the incident occurred when the children were playing on the road in Sunnadakere. Yunias (seven), Preethi (four), Manoj (eight) and Nanjunda (12) were treated at a private hospital here. Angry residents complained that the stray dogs were frequenting.....

Lukewarm response to Magadh bandh call

Jehanabad, Mar 15 (UNI) The proscribed CPI(Maoist)-sponsored dawn-to-dusk ''Magadh bandh'' passed off peacefuly, evoking a lukewarm response today. The bandh was called to protest the custodial death of a Maoist leader. Official reports here said, all shops and business estblishments remained open and three wheelers, long distance buses and trucks were plying on roads as usual. Movement of trains remained unaffected and educational institutions and government offices registered normal attendance. The administration had made elaborate security arrangements to foil the Maoist's.....

BMW'S Indian plant to start operations from this month

Bangalore, Mar 3 (UNI) The assembly plant of luxury car maker BMW at Mahindra World City in Chennai, will start operations later this month as part of the Munich-based companies expansion plans in the country. "India is very important market and we are eyeing nearly 300 per cent growth sales during the current year. We sold 257 luxury sedan's, most of them in the 320 and 520 series, and we are eyeing to sell 1000 plus cars during the current year,".....
