EICA to brand Indian cotton

Mumbai, Mar 15 (UNI) The 90-year old cotton body of the country East India Cotton Association (EICA) is all set to brand the cotton being grown in the country.

Talking about the subject during his inaugural speech in the international conference on cotton here today, the Textile Commissioner of India, J N Singh, saidt ''Indian cotton as a brand must be strongly and actively supported by all stake-holders.'' Later talking to UNI on the sidelines of the conference, the Executive Director of EICA, O P Agarwal, said ''Indian cotton has already carved its niche in the global market due to its excellent quality and the branding excercise had been undertaken by us to give a further fillip to the commodity,'' he added.

''Suppose you are asked to have your choice among the companies' products availabloe before you, then you will definitely prefer to choose the one carrying a popular brand,'' he added.

Similarly the branding was the need of the hour for the country's cotton industry, he added.

Call money closes low 5,40-5.50 pc

Mumbai, Mar 15 (UNI) Interbank call money rates tightened marginally to 5.40-5.50 per cent as against 5.20-5.40 per cent on the previous day's close, dealers said. Despite the current cash supply being comfortable, apprehensions over the near term liquidity put some pressure on the call rates. The one-day LAF reverse repo window saw the central bank receiving 24 bids worth Rs 27,515 crore. India's cotton consumption on the rise

Mumbai, Mar 15 (UNI) A two-day International Conference on Cotton today got off to a flying start in Mumbai amid indications that India's cotton consumption would match its production and the industry has begun to encourage contract farming. The conference is hosted by East India Cotton Association (EICA) jointly with Cotton Outlook, UK. Over 500 delegates from about 20 countries are attending the conference.
