Calcutta High Court orders CBI inquiry into Nandigram killing

Kolkata, Mar 15 (UNI) Calcutta High Court today directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)to send a team to inquire into the Nandigram police firing that killed 14 people and left over 40 injured.

A two-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice Surinder Singh Nijjar took up the case suo moto and issued a ruling, saying that no one could imagine such an incident in a democracy.

The court directed the CBI to submit its report within seven days.

The National Alliance for People's Movement, an organisation fighting for people's rights, also sent a letter to the High Court Chief Justice expressing grave concern over the incident.

The organisation urged the Chief Justice to take necessary measure to reveal what had forced rpt forced the administration to take such steps that cost so many lives.

Over 5.42 lakh pilgrims pay obeisance at Vaishnodevi

Jammu, Mar 3 (UNI) Over 5.42 lakh pilgrims from across the Country have so far visited the holy cave shrine of Vaishnodevi since January this year, registering an increase of over 25,000 pilgrims from last years, an official spokesman said today. Jamtara, Mar 15 (UNI) A local court, hearing the three-decade-old Chirudih murder case, today issued showcause notice to the Dumka central jail superintendent as to why the medical report of former Coal Minister Sibu Soren was not submitted to the court.
