Bihar Assembly transacts business with empty opposition benches

Patna, Mar 15 (UNI) Bihar Assembly today transacted normal business in the House without any hitch as the Opposition, barring Samajwadi Party, continued their boycott for the third consecutive day today.

The opposition members have been demanding withdrawal of a censure motion adopted in the House on Monday denouncing certain acts of some Opposition members in the house.

Meanwhile, Speaker Udai Narain Chaudhary told reporters the present deadlock between Opposition and government could be sorted out through dialogue. He said parleys with opposition leaders were on to end the crisis.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today renewed his appeal to the Opposition members to participate in the proceedings of the House.

There had been precedents of adopting similar censure motion against members for their indecent behaviour within the House. The state government would support the initiatve taken by the Speaker to end the present impasse, he added.

Meanwhile, state RJD president Abdul Bari Siddiqui said Opposition members had not disrupted the proceedings of the House on Monday but had only staged a walkout, which was their democratic rights. It was undemocratic on the part of the government to move and adopt censure motion against the Opposition members in their absence in the house, he added.
