AP Speaker disallows suggestion on Nandigram

Hyderabad, Mar 15 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker K R Suresh Reddy today rejected a suggestion by AIAMIM Leader Akbaruddin Owaisi that the government should pass a resolution condemning police firing in Nandigram in West Bengal.

The Speaker clarified the Assembly was not competent to make comments on the functioning of another state government. If the member wanted, he could express sympathies to the bereaved families.

The AIAMIM MLA's suggestion led to altercation between the members of his party and the CPI(M) who rushed into the well of the House and started loudly protesting.

CPI(M) deputy leader M A Gafoor said while he was not going into the situation leading to the police firing, he condemned the members attempt at mudslinging on the West Bengal Government.

Senior TDP Member Ch Rajeswara Rao said Under Rule 77 any member who wanted to move a resolution, had to give a ten-day notice even for a private resolution.

Cauvery: Congress moves resolution in K'taka Council

Farmers' Debt Relief Commission comes into existence

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 15 (UNI) The Kerala Government today announced the setting up of a five-member Farmers' Debt Relief Commission with Retired High Court Judge K A Abdul Gafoor as its Chairman. The announcement was made by Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan in the State Assembly. The Commission, constituted according to the provisions of the Kerala Farmers' Debt Relief Act, would have powers to settle farm loans taken by farmers from banks and other financial institutions and decide on compensation for crop.....
