Six criminals sentenced under Arms Act

Patna, Mar 14 (UNI) A local court here today awarded five years of regorous imprisonment to six persons besides fine of Rs 5,000 to each convict under Arms Act.

All the six convicts are also facing trial in the much-hyped murder case of former DIG of police Anil Kumar Singh.

The first class judicial magistrate of Patna, K M Tiwary, found Ranjit Kumar, Mannu Kumar, Ajay Kumar Yadav, Kallu alias Ghanshyam Pandit, Subodh Kumar and Amit Kumar guilty for possessing illegal arms and ammunition.

According to the charges, in a train dacoity last year between Rajendranagar Terminal and Patna Junction, former DIG of police, Mr Singh, was shot dead when he tried to resist the criminals.

During investigation, police arrested the convicts and recovered illegal arms and ammunition from their possession. Police had registered a seperate case under the Arms Act. Hearing of the dacoity case is pending now.

Undertrials escape

Jabalpur, Mar 14 (UNI) Three undertrials accused in a bank robbery case escaped from custody after a hearing at the District Court here but two of them were rearrested. Furnishing details of last evening's incident, Additional Superintendent of Police Manohar Verma said, ''Sultan, Imtiaz and Naushad are charged with a two-year-old robbery at the local Dena Bank branch in Anand Nagar. Voluntary Organisation rescues nine drug addict children

Puducherry, Mar 14 (UNI) ''Santhosha Nanbaragal'', a voluntary organisation engaged in the welfare of street children here rescued nine drug addict children. Talking to newspersons here yesterday, the Director(Home) of the organisation Manglorin said the children below 12-years were using whitner solution, synthetic rubber-based adhesives, besides grass. Sarpanch killed by naxals

Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, Mar 14 (UNI) A sarpanch was killed by naxals during a 'Jan Adalat' (people's court) hearing in Bastar district, police said today. Kodnar village sarpanch Mahadev and five other people were arrested five days back. On March 12, naxals organised a 'Jan Adalat' in the forest of Usma. During the meeting, the sarpanch was awarded the death sentence on the suspicion that he was acting as a police informer. He was later stabbed to death. Other villagers.....
