Six core-infrastructure industries grow 8.4 pc in Apr'06-Jan'07

New Delhi, Mar 14 (UNI) The index of six core-infrastructure industries -- crude petroleum, petroleum refinery products, coal, electricity, cement and finished (carbon) steel -- registered a growth of 8.4 per cent during April-January 2006-07, as against 5.8 per cent in the cortresponding period last month.

In January, the six industries registered a growth of 8.7 per cent as compared to 8.2 per cent in same month last year.

Crude petroleum production registerd a growth of 4.7 per cent in January 2007 compared to a negative growth rate of 4.9 per cent in the same month last year.

During April-January 2006-07, it registered a growth of 5.9 per cent production compared to 5.8 per cent during the same period of last year.

Petroleum refinery production reported a growth rate of nine per cent in January as compared to 5.5 per cent in January 2006. It registered a growth of 12.2 per cent during the nine month period ending January this year compared to one per cent during the same period last year.

Coal production registered a growth of 10 per cent in January this year compared to a growth rate of 8.2 per cent in the same month last year. Its production grew by 5.2 per cent during the nine month period this year compared to an increase of 6.4 per cent in the same period last year.

Electricity generation registerd a growth of 8.5 per cent during the month compared to 6.4 per cent in January last year. It grew by 7.6 per cent during the nine month period compared to an increase of 4.9 per cent in the same period of 2005-06.

Cement production registered a growth of 6.8 per cent in January 2007 compared 15.4 per cent in January 2006. It grew by 9.5 per cent during the nine month period of this year compared to 11.4 per cent in the same period last year.

Finished (carbon) Steel production registered a growth of 10.4 per cent in January 2007 comapred to 14.3 per cent last year. It grew by 9.8 per cent during April-January 2006-07 compared to an increase of 11.4 per cent during the same period last year.

New Delhi, Mar 14 (UNI) After Vidharba, suicides reports may now come from the weavers belts in Uttar Pradesh. New Delhi, Mar 14 (UNI) The Sasan Ultra Mega Power Project, in Madhya Pradesh, has been ''traded'' by Globeleq its lead developer alleged Congress MP Gurudas Kamat in a letter to Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde.
