Scribe and cameraman kidnapped in Nandigram

Kolkata, Mar 14 (UNI) A correspondent and a cameraman of a Bengali television channel were allegedly kidnapped by miscreants while covering the Nandigram incidents in East Midnapore district yesterday.

Bholanath Bijuli, the correspondent and cameraman Gouranga Hazra of Tara News were still untraced and remained in the alleged captivity of CPI(M) supporters, officials of the channel today said.

However, Bijuli managed to contact his office today alleging that both of them had been severely beaten up.

The channel officials said though police had been informed, they were yet to take any action. "Police told us that it was not possible to look for any individual right now as an abnormal situation was prevailing in Nandigram," one of the Tara News officials said.

Meanwhile, expressing concern at the incident, Press Club, Kolkata demanded that the state administration rescue the duo.

The club also sought the intervention of Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee into the incident.

Lalu joins Holi celebrations

WB Governor calls Nandigram excesses and outrage

Kolkata, Mar 14 (UNI) West Bengal Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi today excpressed 'anguish' and 'outrage' at the spilling of blood in Nandigram and questioned the use of force that led to the tragedy. "The news of deaths by police firing in Nandigram this morning has filled me with a sense of cold horror. We will soon know more details of the sequence of events that led to this tragedy. But the point uppermost in my mind is not "who started it",.....

ULFA activist killed in encounter

Guwahati, Mar 3 (UNI) A hardcore ULFA activist was killed following an encounter with the Army at Raidang village under Doom Dooma police station in Tinsukia district. Official sources here today said the dead militant was identified as Bolin Moran a member of the ''28th battalion'' of the militant group. Sources informed that a group of ULFA militants were taking shelter at Raidang village yesterday. A team of army personnel cordoned off the area where the militants were hiding......
